Green Apples

I just couldn't stand it any longer. 2 cakes of a beautiful mohair blend in what I would call a green apple color was calling to me. ;-) So I gave in. In fact when I first seen the yarn, I thought that would make a fantastic Irish Hiking Scarf, so I caved in and started. The first picture shows the pattern a little better and the bottom picture is closer to the real color. With Flash/without flash. Also this is my first time using this pair of Lantern Moon needles. I have kept these for something special, so it's really making the whole process of making this scarf enjoyable.

As of today I have finished about half of the Great Dane intarsia squares. I still have to do about 12 of the dog bones to go with it. I really need to take a picture of it so you all can see what it looks like. I'll do that in the next few days.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend and knitting up a storm. Posted by Picasa

Intarsia Question....

This week I really buckled down and got several of the squares done for the Great Dane afghan I'm making for the Great Dane Club of the Mid South's raffle. The picture is just one of the blocks. I have other ones like this in different Great Dane colors and I have some blocks with some bones and paws. Anyway, my question is, I want to put some kind of backing on this so that it will be protected, any suggestions?

Update on the Culinary School. We loved it, in fact going through it, made Sara even more excited about going into this career. This school has a couple of draw backs, such as they will not transfer her credit hours if she moves to another school and they don't recognize the HOPE Scholarship (for you who do not live in GA. If you have a 3.0 average the state will pay for your books and some classes) So she has three other schools to look at and hopefully one of them will be it. Posted by Picasa

Where have I been? Making Another Bag,

I've been bagging. This pattern I made myself. Actually its parts from 4 different bags that I really enjoyed making. But, for some reason, it didn't turn turn out quiet how I planned. It's still nice, and the lady who wants it, will love it, but, picky me would say on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the perfect felted bag, this one for me is about a 6 or 7. This weekend I'll line it and send it off.

Today is a big day. We (Sara, GT and I) are meeting with the counselors at the Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts School. Sara maybe signing her papers to start culinary school. I'm so excited for her. She is an excellent cook, and has a long line of family members on both side that are chefs and restaurant owners so I think she'll be fine. She wanted to pursue another direction just because cooking came so easy to her she kind of blew it off. But, some of the people where she works talked with her, tasted one of her dishes and they encouraged her to follow her gift. So this afternoon we will see what happens.

Ok, I'm out of here, have to get cleaned up and presentable. LOL. Posted by Picasa

Slight delay

Ok, sorry, I felted the bag on Monday as planned, but then "life" broke loose. Yes, the good, the bad and the ugly were all at my house this week. I think the topper of it all was the nearly 12 hours with no power and 100 humid degree GA heat. But, enough of that. Tomorrow is Friday and I'm planning on a fun relaxed day of knitting, cold drinks and good times.

So here's my Vintage Bubble Bag. I'm actually happy with how it turned out. I need to dampen it a little and do some more shaping. (my bags never shape like the pictures) I purchased the lining for it at Hobby Lobby, Monday night and will probably get it in over the weekend. I also have a snap closure to put in and to decorate the outside a little. But, I like the size, I like the handles, I just really like how the bag feels. So this pattern will be made up again.

Pictures

Last night I finished this hand towel. It doesn't look it's size in this picture, but this is the best one to show the pattern. It's a wonderful quick pattern that I got from my knitting calendar. I've wrote the woman asking her permission to put it in the newsletter. I really want to be careful of Copyright laws. Anyway, pattern was fun to make and I was really surprised at how fast I was finished.

Now for the bag. In the previous post I had a picture from the book Pursenalities of the bag I'm working on. Well here it is before felting. I have about 3 more inches of I-cord to do on the handle and I'll be felting it this afternoon. I had purchased some beautiful beaded handles for it, and when I got home and laid them out with the bag they looked terrible. (this means I have to make a bad to goes with these new handles.) Tomorrow I should have the finished product pictures. I sure hope this turns out cute.

So cross your fingers I'm off to finish the handles and felt! Posted by Picasa

A little this, a little that

Wow, what a week. Gunther's birthday, extra work came in, knitting classes, two new knitting students, and the newsletter, last week was crazy, but fun. I also started a new project. The bag below. It's the Vintage Bubble Bag from the Pursenalities.

Of course I'm not making it like the one in the picture. Following knitting directions isn't something I'm good at. LOL. I have the best intentions when I start though. ;-) This bag I'm making it in black and purple with Pattons Classic wool. I still have to buy the yarn for the Oh Bag Me KAL bag. Hopefully Tuesday I'll get it.

The cotton rug is almost done. I have about 5 more inches to finish on it and then it will be ready for the Guest bath. I was going to use it in mine, but I thought I would redecorate the Guest bath, it's been awhile and it needs some color and face lift.

My big goal for this week it to gather up all my left over yarn and start making scarves to give away this Fall and Winter. I have two medium size boxes of yarn scraps that will make some beautiful simple scarves, possibly some children's hats to match. A few of the local shelters are all ready expecting to be over flowing with needs according to the news last night so I want to get a head start on this project.

Another biggie. For those of you who show dogs or have been involved in showing know that your breed's Specialty Show is a big deal. The Great Dane Club of the Mid South is having their Specialty show in September and I've been asked to make some knit items with great Dane motifs for the silent auction. It will be here before I know it, so today and tomorrow are the planning stages and then we'll go from there. I'm pretty excited about it.

I hope that those of you who are going through rough times right now, can find peace in your knitting and with your knitting friends. Several of you have been on my mind lately and though all of us have "things" in life we have to face and go through, having support through those times is priceless.

Happy 1st Birthday Gunther

My little boy is 1 today. LOL. Tomorrow I'll be posting more birthday pictures of Gunther on his blog.

His doggie parents are going to have babies again. If anyone is interested I'd be more than happy to pass on the information. Posted by Picasa
