Another scarf in the making

Ok, for some reason I am on a scarf kick. I don't know why, but I realized today that I'm enjoying scarves again. Go figure. LOL. It must be the cooler temps in GA. But anyway, I have wanted to make the Here and There Cables scarf from Scarf Styles for a long time, so I headed for the stash and pulled out a really pretty light wedgewood blue, Paton's Canadiana. I think it's going to turn out really nice. What do you think?

On a non-knitting subject, to those who have been interested in the past about Great Danes. Gunther's mother, just had a new litter of pups last night. They are fantastic, excellent health, and we are so excited about this litter. There are 11 pups in this litter. If you are interested please let me know, I will be happy to put you in contact with the breeder.

While we are talking about Great Danes. I have a little brag. I've been appointed to Chair the Education/Program committee for the Great Dane Club of the Midsouth. How cool is that? Posted by Picasa

I finished 2 Scarves yesterday

Wednesday evening I remembered that one of my students had asked me about knitting or crocheting one of these really ruffly, scarves. Well I was going to see her again on Thursday so I found a pattern and got busy. The top picture is the ruffled scarf. It's really pretty and lacey and turned out a lot better than I expected. Very cool. Then last night I finished up my second Irish Hiking Scarf. I LOVE IT.

Now it's onto a felted bag and wrist warmers for Sara, and hat for GT, a vest with front zipper closure for my mom, and all the other things I have on needles. LOL. Posted by Picasa

She's 20 today

My daughter, Sara, turned 20 today. We had a wonderful time celebrating. Of course our we did our birthday trip to Starbucks for breakfast and coffee. Then it was one crazy thing after another. The hat she has on, I made Sunday while she was out with her boyfriend at the Atlanta Aquarium. It's her favorite colors. She wanted something different instead of regular cake, so I got her a Godiva Chocolate Cheese Cake. Her favorite. Oh it's ssssoooooooo goooooood. This maybe our new tradition. (grin).

Anyway, I just can't believe my little girl is 20. She is a wonderful person, with a great heart, a lot of common sense and a big future a head of her. I am so proud of her. Posted by Picasa

Women Accused Of Stealing Yarn

POSTED: 4:43 pm EDT May 24, 2006
UPDATED: 6:39 pm EDT May 24, 2006

WOODSTOCK -- A grandmotherly-looking woman is one of the two people accused of stealing thousands of dollars in yarn from stores in metro Atlanta.
Skeins and skeins of yarn has become the target of thieves in Woodstock.
“She looked like your typical grandmother,” says Debi Light.
Shop owner Debi Light says one of the accused thieves is 68-years-old. Light says the woman looked at yarn, pretended she needed to go to her car for her pattern and check books – she never came back.
“We looked all over the store for all the yarn that she was holding in her hand, and it was nowhere to be found,” says Light.
Ms. Light told police that a second woman in her mid-40’s got away with a whole lot more – a little bit at a time.
“She was actually the friend of a lot of people here and would come in quite regularly,” says Light.
One of the most expensive pieces that either lady took – a silk skein – they cost just under $40 each.
The trail led to thefts at other yarn stores in Dunwoody and Roswell, where police arrested the 2 women. Woodstock Police haven’t added additional charges because they’re waiting on Ms. Light.
“She hasn’t made a decision on whether she wants to press charges against these subjects or not,” says Lt. Will Merrill with the Woodstock Police.
Ms. Light is perhaps indecisive, because the husband of one of the accused thieves invited her to his home to recover her yarn.
“We came back with 12 great big, huge garbage bags full of yarn,” says Light.
“We thought, maybe, you know, a couple of thousand, but we totaled it up and Debi and I both just went white,” says shop manager Caryn Southwick.
Shocked because the total was almost $13,000!
The accused yarn thieves are 68-year-old Audrey Yandel of Atlanta and 46-year-old Michaeleen Rose of Woodstock. We got their voice mail, but so far we haven’t been able to talk with either Ms. Yandel or Ms. Rose.

"Yarn thief gets year in jail

By BY CHARLES YOO Published on: 09/25/06
A woman prosecutors called a serial yarn thief will spend a year in jail after pleading guilty to shoplifting Monday in DeKalb County.
Audrey Yandel, a 70-year-old Atlanta grandmother and a retired nurse, has been convicted 12 times in the past two decades, mostly for stealing yarn, according to DeKalb Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney John Melvin.
In the DeKalb cases, Yandel was caught stealing yarn at a Decatur shop in January 2005 and knitting needles at a Dunwoody business in May 2006.
Her attorney, Charles Pekor, said she's been suffering from "compulsive behavior disorder" and has been seeking psychiatric help.
After serving a year in jail, Yandel will be placed on probation for six years. She's now forbidden from entering any specialty store that sells yarn.

On my mind

This summer has been a blur. Time has flown by and I find myself with some regrets of missed time that I can't get back. You know how sometimes the merry-go-round just won't stop. Well my merry-go-round hasn't stopped but it's slowing down and all it took was a wonderful two hour private knitting lesson with one of my students.

For a change she had invited me over to her house. We usually meet at a public cafe. But she has joined the ranks of felters now and just needed a little help. Her home is wonderful. You feel like you are home and not a guest from the minute you walk in the door. Her home is surrounded by beautiful trees and natural landscaping. The leaves on the top of the trees around her area are just starting to change a little, but you can feel Fall all around you. With the smell of coffee in the air, I sat down and we knitted, felted and talked for not just her 2 hour class but 30 more minutes about quilting. LOL. It was an amazing time. We laughed we shared stories and when I left I was relaxed and felt like someone had removed the weight of the world off my shoulders. I had slowed down long enough to smell the air, feel the breeze on my skin and reconnect with the natural things that seem to center me. It felt good.

It also felt good to open the windows last night and turn off the air conditioner. I love to have the windows open when I sleep.

So that's what's on my mind this morning and I'm now off to find natural fibers for inspiration on my next project.

May your day be filled with all that brings a smile to your face and warmth to your heart.

Before they go to auction

Here they are. I thought before I turned them in for the auction I would post a picture for you all. This afternoon I made tags for them with washing instructions. I have to admit, I'm glad that deadline was made and that the pressure from that is over.

I have a question for all of you that read my blog. Many of my knitting students are at the point where they can start socks but I've held back because of our limited time in class. I was thinking about having a sock class somewhere else and have about 4-5 hours to do 1 sock, with Lions Brand Wool Ease on size 5 needles or two circulars. What do you think and what do you think a reasonable fee would be? Reason why I ask, around the northside of Atlanta fees are high, down here on the south side people will not pay those fees and they think anyone who does is crazy. I need to make it worth my while taking a Saturday for the extra class, but I also want to get my students to take their next knitting step. Thanks for your help in this.

Hope you have a wonderful week, blessed be Posted by Picasa

First Pillow Done!

I finished the first pillow. It actually came together pretty well. My picture didn't turn out too good, but you get the idea. LOL. I put a 5 stitch I-cord around it and now I like it so much I may have trouble parting with it. LOL. No actually this is going to a good cause so I hope that it brings in lots of money. Now to finish another one by Wednesday. Posted by Picasa

A few things

I was asked to take a picture of the back of the Irish Hiking Scarf, so here it is. ;-) Though this scarf is not reversible, I think the back of it is really pretty.

Also in the works are my Great Dane blocks. I have finished a few more of them and to be honest I don't think that I'm going to get the afghan done by the 13th. With 2 more blocks and then the borders, then finishing the back, etc I just don't see the 13th as the finish date. So I think what I'm going to do is take some of the squares and make pillows then do the afghan for the Spring Specialty Show.

The square below is a Mantle marked Great Dane. My friend Connie has the most beautiful Mantle female. The markings are very similar to this.

So this is what I've been doing lately, knitting instead of blogging. LOL. I promise I will do better. ROTFL. Posted by Picasa
